Description
The ProSoft MVI56E-GSC is a Generic ASCII Serial Communication Module that fits into a single ControlLogix backplane slot and provides two independent, fully configurable serial ports for connecting non-specific ASCII or byte-value serial devices. Each port can send and receive large ASCII character strings or byte streams of up to 4,096 characters/bytes, making it well suited to devices such as bar code scanners, weigh scales, printers, and legacy ASCII protocol equipment, all built upon the sample ladder logic provided.
The module is backward-compatible with the earlier MVI56-GSC version, allowing existing ladder logic to carry over on upgrade, and can be configured using either sample ladder logic or an Add-On Instruction (AOI). Diagnostics and configuration run through ProSoft Configuration Builder (PCB) over the module’s Ethernet port, with CIPconnect® support for remote diagnostic access across bridged EtherNet/IP and ControlNet networks. An onboard web server provides access to documentation, module status, and firmware updates, while an extreme-environment variant (MVI56E-GSCXT) is available for harsh or high-temperature installations.
