ProSoft MVI56-MCM Modbus Master/Slave Communication Module
The ProSoft MVI56-MCM is a Modbus Master/Slave Communication Module for Rockwell Automation ControlLogix® processors, giving them an easy interface to any Modbus protocol-compatible device. Built as licensed backplane technology manufactured under license from Rockwell Automation, it acts as an I/O module between the Modbus network and the ControlLogix backplane, making it compatible with Modicon PLCs and a wide range of process, control, and SCADA devices from other manufacturers.

Description
The ProSoft MVI56-MCM is a Modbus Master/Slave Communication Module that installs as a generic 1756 module in the ControlLogix rack, giving high-speed data transfer between the module and the processor. It supports both Modbus RTU (binary, CRC-16) and Modbus ASCII (LRC error checking) modes, and each application port can be independently configured as a virtual Master or Slave. As a Master, the module supports up to 100 commands per port, with optimized polling that reduces polling frequency for slaves reporting communication problems. As a Slave, it permits a remote Master to read and write all module data, with a configurable node address from 1 to 247.
All module configuration is defined through sample ladder logic, which is fully commented and includes user-defined data types, ladder rungs, and controller tags — usable without modification for most applications. The module also supports floating-point data movement, including Enron and Daniel-style formats, and provides diagnostics viewable directly in RSLogix™ 5000 controller tags, along with LED indicators and menu-driven hardware/protocol diagnostics for quick health checks.
